Endocrinologists

Description:
Endocrinologists treat diseases of the hormone producing glands and metabolic abnormalities. Major diseases include diabetes, thyroid disease, regulation of fertility, aspects of blood pressure control, management of blood lipid abnormalities, and disordered weight control. Endocrinologists evaluate these problems by a physicial examination, blood tests of the appropriate hormones, as well as stimulation and suppression tests to evaluate how the glands respond to changing conditions.

Endocrinologists treat patients with these problems long term to maintain normal body function and minimize the side effects. Occasionally a malfunctioning gland may need surgical removal at which time the endocrinologists supervise medical replacement therapies to cover surgery. All of the facilities required for endocrine evaluation are available in the Diagnostic Clinic and any surgical procedures can be done in the hospitals at which the Diagnostic endocrinologists have privileges.
