Hematologists

Description:
Hematologists are specialists in investigating and treating disorders of the blood cells. They include abnormalities of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Excessive bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia, and abnormal clotting of blood can also be treated by hematologist. Certain cancers of the blood forming organs, leukemias, or cancers of the lymph nodes, lymphomas, are treated both by hematologists and oncologists. Frequently, the hematologist will study blood cells under the microscope, or take a sample of bone marrow tissue to help make a diagnosis and determine treatment.
